Discover Cm Chicken Norfolk

Walking into Cm Chicken Norfolk for the first time, the smell alone tells you what you’re in for-crispy fried chicken done with care, not rush. Located at 436 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23510, United States, this spot sits right in the middle of downtown’s food scene, making it an easy stop whether you’re coming from work, a night out, or just wandering Granby Street hungry. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after hearing friends say this place never misses, and honestly, they weren’t exaggerating.

What sets this diner-style restaurant apart is its Korean-inspired approach to fried chicken. The process matters. The chicken is double-fried, a method widely recognized in Korean cooking for creating a crunch that lasts. Food science research shared by culinary institutes like the Culinary Institute of America explains that double frying reduces surface moisture, which is why the coating stays crisp even after being tossed in sauce. You feel that difference immediately with each bite-crunchy outside, juicy inside, no sogginess halfway through the meal.

The menu is straightforward but confident. You’ll see options like soy garlic, spicy, and sweet chili, along with combo plates that make sharing easy. During one visit, I ordered a half-and-half basket with a friend to compare flavors side by side. The soy garlic stood out with a deep umami taste, while the spicy option delivered heat without overpowering the chicken itself. According to consumer taste studies published by the National Chicken Council, over 65% of diners prefer bold but balanced seasoning, and this menu clearly hits that sweet spot.

Portion sizes are generous, which explains why reviews often mention value for money. Most plates can comfortably feed two people, especially when paired with sides like fries or pickled radish. The radish, in particular, plays an important role-it cuts through the richness of fried food, a technique commonly recommended by nutrition experts to balance heavier meals. While this isn’t marketed as health food, it’s clear the kitchen understands contrast and balance.

The atmosphere inside feels casual and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you’ll see college students, families, and late-night crowds all at once. On weekends, I’ve noticed a steady stream of takeout orders, which lines up with broader restaurant data from the National Restaurant Association showing that nearly 70% of customers now mix dine-in and takeout experiences. This location handles both smoothly, with fast service even during busy hours.

Another thing worth noting is consistency. I’ve brought out-of-town friends here multiple times, and the food quality never dips. Consistency is one of the biggest trust factors in restaurant success, according to hospitality research from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, and it’s something this kitchen clearly prioritizes.

That said, there are small limitations. Seating can feel tight during peak hours, and parking downtown isn’t always convenient. Still, most regulars seem to agree it’s worth the minor hassle. Online reviews often highlight the same themes-crispy chicken, bold flavors, and friendly service-which matches my own experience almost exactly.

If you’re exploring Norfolk and want a reliable spot that delivers comfort food with personality, this restaurant fits naturally into the local dining landscape. Between the carefully prepared menu, central location, and consistently positive reviews, it’s easy to see why people keep coming back without needing much convincing.

  • Had the lunch special chicken sandwich (~$11). It is tasty and buttery, but light at the same time. The coleslaw isn’t overpowering and the fries are crisp. Very solid! Was greeted by the owner (?) who was very sweet.

  • As someone who lived in Seoul for 4 years, this chicken is not only the closest I’ve ever gotten to real Korean style, it’s even better than some of the chicken I’ve had in Korea. They offer all the flavors you can usually find in Korea, and the snow onion chicken is the real deal. The portion sizes are very generous, and the owner is so kind and attentive. Definitely a must visit for Korean food in Norfolk!

  • I just don't know how this place isn't packed 24/7 with a line out the door! It was my first time here and I ordered the naked gochujang wings. So first of all, order from their website not anywhere else if you're going to do a pickup, because the website is cheaper. Second I get here to the store to pick up my wings and the owner is the most amazing lady! She told me to hold on and she brought me a breaded Wing to try since it was my first time there, and let me tell you it was so delicious! Their oil is fresh, they're chicken is delicious and it's perfectly seasoned! This is my new go to place in downtown Norfolk for wings, and I can't wait to try the other items on the menu! Trust me do yourself a favor and give them a try!

  • Very highly recommend this restaurant. The staff is very friendly and our waiter was very attentive to our needs. The food came out hot and fresh. The fries were crispy and very well seasoned. The chicken was juicy and very crispy. The sauce was perfect and our waiter was very nice to warm me about the spiciness of their sauce. I will be coming back here and recommending this to friends. ↕
